Myth Busters for Employers

Myth: A registered apprenticeship involves too much federal red tape.
Busted: A registered apprenticeship program is extremely flexible within certain parameters.

Testimonial from Rick Forsythe, Support Services, Granite School District

"Last year, I had an apprenticeship program for computer repair technicians that needed to be revamped. The classes had an electronics focus, and Granite School District needed more of a computer hardware technician emphasis. I met with our contact at the local community college, explained what changes were needed. Once we had the classes in place, I E-mailed a copy to the Office of Apprenticeship. Within a short period, I got a reply that the classes were approved and that we could start using the new curriculum right away. No hassle.

On other issues, I have found the Office of Apprenticeship to be helpful and accommodating. Instead of using forms I had to fill out by hand, the Office of Apprenticeship has allowed me to use a software program that writes forms electronically, so that I could enter them via computer and E-mail updates on my apprentices to the Office of Apprenticeship . This has been a real time saver and allows me to keep electronic files on each apprentice in my program. So much for red tape."
